Underfloor Insulation made from polyester is the best underfloor insulation for wooden floors.  Insulating under your house makes your home much more comfortable (no cold floors or draughts) and reduces the need, and cost, for heating and cooling.  It’s a perfect DIY project you can do at any time of the year to make your home much more energy efficient.

eoMaster offers two types of Autex Greenstuf Polyester Underfloor Insulation in Victoria: VP (Vacuum Packed) and NVP (Non Vacuum Packed).  Polyester is “people friendly”. There are no glass fibres itching your skin, irritating your eyes or getting into your lungs.  This makes installation a breeze.   This insulation uses a high component of recycled plastic bottles so its good for the environment too!

Polyester insulation is manufactured to exceptional standards, making it the most effective product for underfloor insulation for wooden floors. With the robust nature of polyester, it doesn’t lose its shape over time, ensuring long-term comfort. The polyester's strong, heat-bonded fibres can be secured with staples for ongoing energy savings.  Specially manufactured in rolls, this insulation requires fewer joins and is easier to install than ordinary insulation materials.

If you are outside of Victoria see Polymax based on the state you are in.

Is it worth insulating under floorboards? Ask your toes and feet that are too cold.

An insulation effectiveness is measured in R value; the higher the insulation R value, the better the insulation.

You may think that having insulation under a laminate floor wouldn’t do much, but most laminates only have an R Value of up to R1.

ecoMaster's polyester subfloor insulation is rated at R2.5,  which achieves an overall rating of R 3.2 (without carpet) or R 3.5 (with carpet).

Insulating your floors will give you greater thermal comfort and save energy. Make your home cosy from the ground up with the most effective thermal efficiency solution. Regardless of which subfloor type you have, we recommend this high-quality insulation to insulate under floors.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What is the difference between Vacuum Packed (VP), and Non Vacuum Packed (NVP) Underfloor Insulation?
A: The difference between the VP and NVP Underfloor Insulation is simply that VP (Vacuum Packed) has had the air sucked to make the size of the pack smaller.  NVP (Non Vacuum Packed) has been packed without compression.  This makes the size of the packs different.  It does not affect the complete coverage but it does impact on the R value that is immediately achieved under your floor.

When you unpack the VP insulation, it will come out looking quite flat.  This is because it has been vacuum packed. It will take some time for it to “reloft” to its natural full thickness and therefore its effective R value.

Q: Why is VP (Vacuum Packed) cheaper than NVP (Non Vacuum Packed Underfloor Insulation)?
A: The VP (Vacuum Packed) is the same product as the NVP (Non Vacuum Packed). It sells for a lower price because it is less than half the size.   The difference is in the cost of handling, storage and shipping a very bulky product.

  • VP pack is …1.5m x 0.7m diameter
  • NVP pack is  1.3m x 1.3m diameter
  • VP is roughly half the size of the NVP product.

Q: Why do you offer both Vacuum Packed (VP), and Non Vacuum Packed (NVP) Underfloor Insulation?
A: We want to be able to offer the highest quality Underfloor Insulation and feel that Non Vacuum Packed (NVP) is the best way to go. However, we also understand that we all have different priorities and want to be able to offer both solutions so we can best suit your priorities and budget.

Q: Which is better - Vacuum Packed (VP) or Non Vacuum Packed (NVP) Underfloor Insulation?
A: That is an excellent question.  ecoMaster is the only supplier who offers Greenstuf Underfloor Insulation in a Non Vacuum Packed (NVP) version.  We have always been focused on quality and wanted to ensure that our clients got the very best material for a perfect and immediately effective result.

As freight and storage costs have increased dramatically, the ability to freight more insulation at a lower cost allows us to offer the VP version of underfloor insulation at a lower price.

Q: How long will it take for the Vacuum Packed (VP) version to reloft to the Non Vacuum Packed (NVP) equivalent?
A: The answer to this varies enormously.  It depends mostly on how long the insulation has been in its compressed form.  Relofting, nominally, takes one month.  Anecdotally, we have had the advice that the relofting can take up to a year.  Your Vacuum Packed insulation is “double bagged”.   To reloft your insulation quicker, remove the second bag from each pack immediately your order is received.  Letting your insulation sit in the sun also helps with relofting.

Q: Can I install Vacuum Packed insulation before it has relofted?
A: Yes!   As you will be stapling insulation that is much thinner than its final form, you are probably going to staple it at about mid joist rather than on the bottom of the joist.  This means that when it does finally reloft, you will not be getting R2.5 completely across the whole joist space.

If you do decide to staple the insulation to the lower edge of the joist, you will be leaving a “rodent enabling gap” between your insulation and the timber floor above.

Q: What does Autex Polyester Underfloor Insulation do?
A: Our underfloor insulation acts as a thermal barrier for your floors, to keep the outer temperature outside, and maintain the temperature of your home inside.

Q: Can Autex Polyester Underfloor Insulation be used in my Climate Zone?
A: Autex Polyester Underfloor Insulation can be used in climate zones 4, 6, 7, & 8.

Q: Do you have a warranty for the insulation rolls?
A: Autex GreenStuf Polyester Underfloor Insulation has a manufacturer warranty of 50 years (T&C’s apply).

Q: What about the installation, is there a warranty for that?
A: As it is a DIY product, we cannot provide an installation warranty, the installation process is outside of our control. We only had two situations where the insulation did not hold up (when properly installed) - one was from a tradesperson taking it down, the other was a wombat.

Q: Is Autex Polyester Underfloor Insulation easy to install?
A: The difficulty of installing underfloor insulation largely depends on your individual home. Factors like height under the floor, joist spacing, access, among other things all play a part. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions about the installation by emailing sales@ecomaster.com.au, or calling 1300 326 627.

Q: How do you install Autex Polyester Underfloor Insulation?
A: To install the underfloor insulation, you simply fit and fix it. For more details on how to install the insulation please watch our video

Take part in our MasterClass

Q: What fixings, and how many do I need?
A: For the best result we suggest using 10mm galvanised staples, this prevents the staples from rusting and eventually corroding away. Allow about 800 staples per a pack of insulation. Only use an electric stapler, this is for safety reasons.

DO NOT USE A HAND STAPLER DUE TO THE RISK OF ELECTROCUTION.

Q: What stapler should I use?
A: Using a double insulated electric stapler is something that we cannot stress enough for your safety.  If you happen to staple an electrical wire it will not be a fatal accident.  You will immediately know which wire your electrician needs to replace.

Q: Why should I leave the power on when Installing?
A: We recommend leaving the power on due to the convenience it will provide if you accidentally staple an electrical wire; you will know where the compromised wire is located, and as you have used a double insulated stapler, you will be safe.  Having the power connected  also allows the convenience of using mains powered light sources and staple guns.

Q: Do you have a recommended installer for the underfloor insulation?
A: A recommended installer is highly location dependent. To find out if we have a recommended installer in your area please email sales@ecomaster.com.au, or call 1300 326 627.

Q: What is the underfloor insulation made of?
A: Our underfloor insulation is made from 100% polyester, it’s the best thing to do with PET bottles.  It has at least a 45% recycled component.

Q: Is it fire rated?
A: This excerpt is taken from the datasheet:

  • * AS ISO 9705:2003
  • * SMOGRARC: less than 100m2/s2
  • * AS1530.3
  • * Ignitability Index (0-20) 0
  • * Heat Evolved Index (0-10) 0
  • * Spread of Flame Index (0-10) 0
  • * Smoke Developed Index (0-10) 3
  • * IEC 60695-11-5 (Downlight Fire Test Standard)

GreenStuf has been tested and assessed as complying with IEC 60695-11-5 Needle-Flame Test.

If you would like a copy of the datasheet for Autex GreenStuf Polyester Insulation please email sales@ecoMaster.com.au

Q: Is there a noise reduction benefit on using the bulk insulation products?
A: All insulation will have an acoustic benefit due to its density, unfortunately it is difficult to say how much because the underfloor insulation is designed for thermal performance.

Q: How much improvement would underfloor insulation make?
A:
Without underfloor insulation, your floorboards are the same temperature as outside, this is due to the floorboards rating is R0.7.

With carpet and a great underlay, the rating is R1.0 and for many people an additional R0.3 is noticeable.

When you add our underfloor insulation to your home, your floor will have a minimum rating of R3.2 with a timber floor, or R3.5 with carpeted floor.

With underfloor insulation installed, your floorboards are the same temperature as inside.

Also read the Reviews on www.ecoMasterStore.com.au for this product.

Q: Does wind affect the effectiveness of underfloor Insulation?
A: Our underfloor insulation has a dense face which you need to ensure is facing downwards. Apart from being better for stapling through it also reduces wind penetration of the insulation.  Unless your underfloor is extremely windy, the wind will not penetrate into the insulation.

Q: Can I cut the Autex GreenStuf Underfloor Insulation?
A: Usually there is no need to cut polyester underfloor insulation.  Where your joist spacing does not accept the material lengthways,  the “turn and tear” method is the easy and effective way to handle other joist spacings.

If you do actually want to cut the material, refer to the installation video for Web Truss floors.

Q: How long does it take from ordering to delivery?
A: It usually takes up to 4 business days between placing your order to delivery.

Q: Can I get a sample?
A: At this time we cannot provide samples.  Please check the videos about underfloor insulation on the “How To” tab at
www.ecoMasterStore.com.au

Q: Can I exchange if the insulation is the wrong size or colour?
A: This is only available in one size and the colour may vary. Sometimes the shade will differ due to less dyes being used in the manufacturing process. This does not affect the thermal quality of the polyester insulation. Colour may range from white, to a bright green, and anywhere in between.

Q: What is the difference between Autex and Polymax?
A:
They are very similar products.   Specifically, Polymax is white in colour, rather than green like Autex Greenstuf.   Autex Greenstuf can be a lighter shade depending upon the colour of the polyester fibres used in manufacturing.

Polymax has a nominal loft of 140mm (there are some variations), we recommend that you open the packs a day or two prior to installation to allow it to re-loft. Whereas Autex Greenstuf NVP (Non Vacuum Packed) has a loft of 120mm.  Autex Greenstuf VP will be much less than 120mm straight out of the pack.

Lastly, the length of each roll of Polymax is 10m2, this gives you total coverage of 13.5m2 per pack. The rolls of Autex Greenstuff are 11.5m in length and have complete coverage of 15.6m2.

Other than those differences, the two brands of insulation are the same.  Autex Greenstuf is not available outside of Victoria, so that is why we chose to offer Polymax in other States.

They have the same R2.5 rating, 450mm width, 100% polyester, has between 45% - 80% recycled material and installation method.

Q: Can I collect Autex Polyester Underfloor Insulation?
A:
Yes you can collect your purchase yourself; but there are some ground rules for your safety, warehouse safety as well as fellow road users:

  1. 1. Collections from the warehouse are only available Mondays and Thursdays between the hours of 8am and 3pm.
  2. 2. If you are collecting your order you must collect the ENTIRE order in one go.  The warehouse staff cannot release it in sublots to suit your vehicle.
  3. 3. You must load your own vehicle.  The warehouse staff are not permitted to help you - this is an OH&S requirement.
  4. 4. We will advise you of your collection number and date of collection.  You cannot collect without the "V" number we provide you.
  5. 5. Failure to collect your order on the allotted day will result in a $150 rescheduling fee.

Q: How much Underfloor Insulation Can I Fit in My Vehicle?
A:
That depends on your vehicle and which variation of the insulation you have purchased, VP (Vacuum Packed) or NVP (Non-Vacuum Packed).  Here are some guidelines:

VP packs are sausage shaped.  They measure 1400mm long and are somewhat oval in cross section measuring about 600mm x 800mm.

  1. 1. In a small hatch you might fit 1 pack.
  2. 2. In a large station wagon you will probably fit 2 or 3 packs.
  3. 3. In an open 6 x 4 box trailer you might fit 5 but tie them down.
  4. 4. In a caged 8 x 4 trailer you might fit 6 standing up and whatever you can tie down on top.

NVP packs are MUCH bigger.  These are large cylinders measuring 1.3m high and 1.3m in diameter. Check this page showing 9 packs squeezed onto a ute and trailer.

  1. 1. In a small hatch you will fit zero packs.
  2. 2. In a large station wagon you may fit 1 pack.
  3. 3. In a 6 x 4 open trailer you could fit 3 but you will need lots of tying down.
  4. 4. In an 8 x 4 caged trailer 6 at a pinch.  But remember, you have to load this yourself.  Be sure to tie down very well so that you do not lose your load on the highway.

Q: What is the minimum number I need to order?
A:

ProductMOQ Packs (200m2)
U/FLOOR R2.0 x 450mm x 11.6m GREENSTUFF13
U/FLOOR R2.5 x 450mm x 11.6m - 3 ROLLS PER PACK13

Q: How much improvement would underfloor insulation make?
A:
Without underfloor insulation, your floorboards are the same temperature as outside, this is due to the floorboards rating is R0.7.

With carpet and a great underlay, the rating is R1.0 and for many people an additional R0.3 is noticeable.

When you add our underfloor insulation to your home, your floor will have a minimum rating of R3.2 with a timber floor, or R3.5 with carpeted floor.

With underfloor insulation installed, your floorboards are the same temperature as inside.
