3 in 1 Draft Stoppa Mounting Plate Adapter | FAQ

Q: I still burn gas in my home.  Is this product safe to use?
A:
We strongly recommend that you replace your gas appliances with all electric options.  It will reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning and the emission of water vapour.   Do not install this product - you need all the ventilation you can get.

Q: Why do I need to use the DraftStoppa Mounting Plate?
A: The design and shape of a typical 3 in 1 Heat lamp will prevent a DraftStoppa Exhaust Fan Cover from sealing correctly. The Adapter Plate provides a surface the DraftStoppa can seal down to on an otherwise obstructing Exhaust Fan.

Q: Do I need to get an electrician to rewire my 3-in-1 heat lamp unit in order to fit my DraftStoppa with a Mounting Plate over it?
A: Yes. It is essential to rewire the electrical switch so that the fan is on any time the heat lamps are used. This is necessary to prevent melting the DraftStoppa.

Q: Are there any things to watch out for?
A: Occasionally there are obstructions that cause difficulty with fitting. The most common ones are:

  • The ceiling joists are too close together to accommodate the DraftStoppa as it is slightly wider than the exhaust fan.
  • There is a pipe above the exhaust fan.
  • The power outlet supplying the fan has been fitted too close to the fan.

Q: What if my exhaust fan is on the ground floor of a two-storey home?
A: If your exhaust fan is not a 3 in 1, and there is sufficient space to install a Draftstoppa (which is usually the case), then this is achievable. However, 3 in 1 exhaust fans are normally too tall to allow for the fitting of a DraftStoppa and adapter plate.

Q: Will I still be able to use my fan?
A: This product should not prevent your fan from its natural function. If it does, then it may have inadvertently pushed into the side of the fan blades. Repositioning the DraftStoppa should clear the problem.
