Draught Dodgers for Doors | Perimeter Seal | FAQ

Q: What are Draught Dodgers?
A: Draught Dodgers are an award winning range of architectural quality perimeter seals designed to effectively and permanently eliminate air leaking in and around doors and windows - door seals that actually work!

Q: What does Draught Dodgers for Doors do?
A: Draught Dodgers for Doors helps seal the top, and sides of your internal or external doors from draughts.

Q: Are Draught Dodgers for Doors easy to install?
A: Yes, the pre-cut angles and the included fitting packer means that you only need to cut them to length in order to get a great finish and a perfect seal.

Q: When might Draught Dodgers not be appropriate?
A: When installing on a single external door here are some things to watch out for:

  1. If your door is fitted with a doorknob that is very close to the door jamb, the Draught Dodgers may cause difficulty in operating the doorknob. The Draught Dodgers add 11mm to the side of the jamb and this may impinge on the space normally used by your fingers operating the doorknob. If you have a door lever handle this is not a concern.
  2. In some period homes, there can be an ornate skirting fitted around the bottom of the front door jamb. Draught Dodgers can only butt up to the skirting and cannot be fitted over it.
  3. Similarly, in such ornate period front door jambs, the top of the door jamb can be a very thin ornate moulding. In this case, the top section of Draught Dodger cannot be fitted to the jamb in the regular way. It can however be fitted to the top face of the door such that the seal presses onto the ornate moulding when the door is closed. This is an effective method however aesthetic considerations may preclude this application.
  4. If your external door jamb has a screen door stopbead fitted onto it then it's best to check that there is enough space for the Draught Dodgers to fit between the door side of the stopbead and the face of the front door. You will need a minimum of 22mm in order to fit the Draught Dodgers correctly.

Q: What are Draught Dodgers for Doors made of?
A: Raw Timber Draught Dodgers for Doors are made from a high quality, sustainably harvested Tassie Oak. White and Black Draught Dodgers for Doors are made from powder coated aluminium. Both are fitted with a high quality vinyl compressive seal, and an extremely durable adhesive tape.

Q: Where are Draught Dodgers for Doors made?
A: The timber for Raw Timber Draught Dodgers is sustainably harvested in Australia. The aluminium Draught Dodgers are also made in Australia. We specifically source those materials from Australia.

Q: Do you have a recommended installer for Draught Dodgers?
A: A recommended installer is highly location dependent. To find out if we have a recommended installer in your area please contact us or call 1300 326 627

Q: I want to paint my Draught Dodgers. What should I watch out for?
A: Raw Timber Draught Dodgers can easily be stained or painted either before fitting or after fitting. Please note that only the timber part of the Draught Dodgers should be painted. Do not attempt to paint the seals. To ensure a good result, apply undercoat, sand, first coat, sand and final coat. If painting after installation, be sure to remove the seals first. Keep them in a safe place and refit them after painting is complete. Aluminium Draught Dodgers can also be successfully painted. Check out the detailed video in the How To section.

Q: Can I get a sample?
A: Unfortunately, we do not have samples of Draught Dodgers available.

Q: Do I have to use the fitting packer?
A: The fitting packer has been provided to ensure the Draught Dodgers are fitted correctly. Not using the fitting packer will most likely result in an improper installation.

Q: Can we have Draught Dodgers 2.7m long?
A: We do not have the ability to manufacture, or ship pieces that are longer than 2350mm. To draught proof a door that is larger than 2350mm you will need to join 2 mouldings together during installation.

Q: I want to treat my front door and my back door. Should I get a 2 door set or 2 x 1 door sets?
A: If your doors are single standard height doors (up to 2350mm tall), then a two door set will be sufficient. Otherwise, you will need 2 x 1 door sets. You might like to consider the Front and Back Door kit as a great way to save money on your materials.  Alternatively, we offer an External Door kit to seal a single external door.

Q: Can I get white Draught Dodgers with a brown seal?
A: Yes you can.  Select White Draught Dodgers, and a Custom Order Charge, then add in the notes that you would like brown seals with your white draught dodgers.   Alternatively you can select Timber Draught Dodgers with a white seal and add a Custom Order Charge

Q: I have damaged one of the Draught Dodgers trying to install it. Can I get a replacement?
A: Yes. You can order spare Draught Dodgers here.  Note that is just one moulding - it does not include the compressive seal.

Q: The Draught Dodgers are stuck in the wrong place, now I can’t put the seals in?
A: Unfortunately that is quite problematic. We provide installation videos to ensure a quality result. Draught Dodger mouldings can be removed from the door, but the self adhesive tape will not restick. You can re-fit the Draught Dodgers with brads or screws, but make sure to use the fitting packer and PLEASE watch the installation video.

Q: Will Draught Dodgers help to reduce noise?
A: Draught Dodgers will help reduce noise. It has not been tested for acoustic performance. However, if you specifically need an acoustic door seal, then you should consider the RP78 Acoustic Perimeter Seal
