How To

DIY ecoGlaze requires you to have good attention to detail and the ability to closely follow our step-by-step guide videos to achieve successful insulation.

There are 3 steps to installing ecoGlaze. Each step is detailed in a separate video. It is essential you watch all 3 videos before you begin your order in readiness to DIY install.

DIY On-Sash requires 1 x On Sash Fit and Finish Kit per panel of glass

Step 1. Preparation

  1. Measuring the top and bottom of your Window.
  2. Cutting the top and bottom mouldings to size
  3. Cleaning the Window in Readiness for ecoGlaze

Step 2. Installing the Mouldings

  1. Install the Mini Seal to the Perimeter
  2. Install the Bottom Moulding and Acrylic Supports
  3. Install Top Moulding
  4. Measure the side Mouldings
  5. Cut the Side Mouldings
  6. Install the Left Hand Moulding
  7. Install the Right Hand Moulding
  8. Fit End Caps from the On-Sash Fit and Finish Kit to the Mouldings. We found this step is easiest when completed with steps 6 and 7

Step 3. Installing the Acrylic

  1. Remove Mouldings from window
  2. Double Check the size
  3. Remove liner from the Acrylic
  4. Put Acrylic in place and replace mouldings over the top to secure it in place.
Delivery

Where can you deliver to?

Orders can be delivered to just about anywhere within Australia. However, if you are in a regional or remote area, the freight costs will increase.  ecoGlaze orders generally comes in a long tube which carries an additional handling cost with the courier. If you have an alternative drop-off address in a larger town or city, freight costs can be considerably lower.
Alternatively, consider sharing the freight charge with a neighbour/friend who might benefit from any of our longer range of product (such as Draught Dodgers) that also requires a longer tube for shipping.

Sending two tubes to the same address in the one consignment is only $1 or $2 more!

Authority to leave?

When your order is consigned with the courier, you will receive an email containing your consignment number and tracking website so you can track the location of your order.

The standard courier delivery option is "Authorised to Leave". That means that if there is no one home when the courier arrives, your order will be left at your address. If this is not appropriate, please advise when you place your order for alternative arrangements to be made. ecoMaster is not responsible for the safety of your order once it has been delivered. Theft from your home is a crime and should be reported to the Police.

Why is the shipping cost high?

Yes, we agree, the cost of freight is high at the moment.  Add to that, ecoGlaze are shipped in 2.49 metres long tubes, so they carry a loading penalty of $10 on top of normal rates by the freighters.

City to city, we used to pay $15, now it is between $35 to $38. Unfortunately we are not able to absorb this cost.

We suggest a cost-effective way forward is to ask a neighbour or friend if they want to add an order with yours as the cost of freight remains the same.

Can I collect?

Yes - there is a Pickup option at the checkout.

Click here to check the collection location, dates and times. Please note this is a collection point only and it is not constantly staffed.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Q: What is DIY ecoGlaze On Sash?
A: There are three different types of ecoGlaze, each designed for a specific type of window. DIY ecoGlaze On Sash is specifically for hinged or wind out windows and french doors.

Q: Can I get the acrylic sheet directly from ecoMaster?
A: No. We tried to develop a cost-effective solution for shipping acrylic around the country. Unfortunately, the logistics of doing this across Australia made the option not economically viable for you. We concluded that the most cost-effective way for you to achieve the benefits of double glazing for the lowest possible cost, was for us to provide the DIY ecoGlaze On Sash Mouldings (either single mouldings or in 'Ready to Go' Sets and you source the acrylic locally. We have several acrylic suppliers who understand the ecoGlaze system and are very happy to work with you to achieve the final result.

Q: OK. I will source acrylic myself. What do I need to ask for?
A: Ask for a 4.5mm thick clear acrylic sheet cut to size. Some brand names that your supplier may have include Plexiglas, Shinkolite and Perspex. Provided you ask for 4.5mm thick clear acrylic, they will all be suitable for secondary glazing. Plexiglass has a 30 year warranty while Shinkolite and Perspex have 10 year warranties.

Q: My neighbours can look straight into some of my windows. Can ecoGlaze help obscure the view but keep the light?
A: Yes it can! When purchasing your acrylic panel simply ask for “Pearl” coloured acrylic. This is similar to frosting on glass. It still allows most of the light in but obscures the view. You can use “Pearl” to obscure the lower parts of a double-hung window and leave the upper parts clear.

Q: I have Aluminium Sliding Windows. Can I ecoGlaze them?
A: No. We do not know of any DIY solution that will allow you to secondary glaze existing residential aluminium sliding windows and still allow them to open. We are developing a system that will be suitable for Aluminium sliding windows, to learn more about this, subscribe to https://www.ecomaster.com.au/ecobites

Q: Can I fit DIY ecoGlaze to the outside of my windows?
A: Technically, yes you can. But we do not recommend it and we do not warranty the components if they are installed outside.

Q: I already have double glazing. Can I fit ecoGlaze as well so I get the benefits of Triple Glazing?
A: Yes you can. To get the full benefit of Triple Glazing your home, it is important that the rest of your home is also up to the same standard of thermal and energy efficiency. That means, a very well-insulated roof, good quality underfloor insulation, wall insulation and most importantly, thorough draught proofing! If we can relate that to a clothing analogy; there is little overall benefit in wearing a really warm jacket, if you are wearing shorts and thongs.

Q: Will ecoGlaze stop condensation on my windows?
A:
ecoGlaze will significantly reduce condensation on the windows and doors in your home. Condensation occurs because of the build up of moisture in the air and condensing at the coldest point in your home - at the dew point. This is because your windows are normally the coldest element in your home. If there is a build up of condensation, simply remove the acrylic panel, dry the glass and the acrylic then reinstate the acrylic panel and the magnetic mouldings.

If condensation is an ongoing issue, it would be necessary to determine the source of water vapour in the air and deal with it. Sources of water vapour include, but are not limited to: gas appliances (burning gas emits water vapour and carbon monoxide), drying clothes inside, bathroom exhaust fans that are not effectively removing moisture and some clothes dryers. Open plan showers are particularly problematic as the shower steam is not contained and escapes creating condensation issues for the bathroom as well as adjoining rooms. This is especially prevalent during winter when condensation issues can be at their peak.

What is ecoGlaze, and why is it a good alternative to double glazing?

ecoGlaze is a secondary glazing system that gives you many of the same benefits as double glazing—better insulation, reduced noise, improved comfort, and lower energy bills—without replacing your windows. It works by adding a clear acrylic panel to the inside of your existing window, creating an insulating air gap that helps keep your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

Do I have to replace my windows to use ecoGlaze?

Not at all! That’s the beauty of ecoGlaze. It works with your existing TIMBER windows—no need to rip anything out. It’s a much easier, more affordable way to get the benefits of double glazing without the cost or construction mess.

Will ecoGlaze change how my windows look?

Nope! ecoGlaze is designed to be discreet and neat. The acrylic panels are crystal clear and the frame options (timber or white aluminium mouldings) blend in beautifully. Once it’s installed, you’ll hardly notice it—apart from how much more comfortable your home feels.

Can I install ecoGlaze myself?

Yes! ecoGlaze is a DIY-friendly solution with clear instructions and step-by-step videos to guide you through the process. If you’re handy and confident with a measuring tape, it’s a satisfying weekend project.  If you could prefer for an ecoGlaze installer to install for you  please contact us for a referral to a trusted ecoGlaze technician in your area.

How do I know which ecoGlaze kit I need?

That depends on your window type! We have kits for fixed windows, sash/hinged windows, and even ready-to-go standard sizes. If you're unsure, our friendly team can help you pick the right kit for your window style.

Comfort improvement

The kit worked well. Installation required care. I have a decent collection of tools that made it easier looks good and can tell the reduction in heat flow.

Hi Clive,

We're delighted to learn that our DIY ecoGlaze kit worked well for you and that you were able to see a reduction in heat flow. We understand that installation can require care, as it is a multi-step install it is something that a moderately competant DIYer should undertake. We are happy to hear your collection of tools helped with that. Thank you for your support and sharing your thoughts with the community.
