About

A Draftstoppa is a device that prevents draughts from entering through kitchen, bathroom, laundry or toilet exhaust fans that are fitted in the ceiling.  It has recyclable plastic butterfly wings that open automatically when the exhaust fan is switched on, and close down when the fan is switched off.

A DraftStoppa can also be fitted to 3-in-1 bathroom heat lamp units, but an electrician is required to rewire the switch to ensure that the fan is always on when the heating lamps are on.   [Learn more]

This is the original and best Draftstoppa created by a practical and creative Aussie gent with a big vision for energy savings.  The DraftStoppa was so innovative that is won the HIA Product of the Year in 2003.

Benefits:

Reduces Energy Costs: By sealing off draughts, it helps maintain the desired indoor temperature, reducing the need for heating in winter and cooling in summer.  Reduce your heating and cooling costs by up to 30%

Improves Indoor Comfort: Prevents unwanted draughts, dust, and insects from entering through the exhaust fan, enhancing overall comfort.

Supports Healthier Indoor Air: By reducing the influx of outdoor pollutants and allergens, it contributes to a healthier indoor environment.

Noise Reduction: Helps to dampen noise from outside, leading to a quieter and more peaceful home interior.

Boosts Overall Efficiency: Enhances the effectiveness of other energy-saving measures in the home by eliminating one common source of energy loss.

Features:

Universal Fit: Designed to fit over most standard ceiling exhaust fans, making it a versatile solution for various home setups.

Self-Sealing Flaps: These flaps open when the fan is in use and close automatically when the fan is off, preventing air from entering or escaping.

Easy Installation: The DraftStoppa can be installed without the need for professional help, using simple tools and following straightforward instructions.

Durable Construction: Made from high-quality, fire-resistant materials that ensure longevity and safety.

Eco-Friendly: Manufactured using recyclable materials, supporting environmentally responsible living.

Australian:  Designed and manufactured in Australia. Australian Made and Owned.

Test Results:

Winter test results demonstrated, with an external temperature of 1ºC and an average internal room (10m x 4m x 2.7m - volume 108m³) and an inside ambient  temperature of 15.5ºC, the cold air inflow from the roof cavity through an unsealed fan into the room was measured at 13 litres / second.

This means that for every hour 46.8m³ of cold air would have entered the room.  The total volume of warm air would be replaced every 2 hours and 20 minutes.  Can you imagine what that is costing you! Every.single.day!!

      Specs

This is the original Draft Stoppa: pioneered and manufactured in Australia.

The DraftStoppa has a diameter of 350mm.
The closed height of a draftStoppa is 160mm.
When fully opened, the height of the DraftStoppa is 200mm.

The DraftStoppa comes in 4 sections - two round sections and two butterfly wings.

DraftStoppas have small rubber bumpers on each of the butterfly wings so their operation is silent when the wings close on the unit.

The round sections clip together, then the wings are clipped in at the top.

Don't be fooled by a sub-standard version.  Make sure you buy the original, Australian designed and made DraftStoppa.

Draft Stoppa is made from recyclable, fire retardant materials.
The Draught Stopper requires no maintenance and has no running costs.

        FAQ

Q: What does this product do and how does it work?
A: DraftStoppas are installed above exhaust fans to stop excessive air leakage when exhaust fans are not in use. This product has gravity operated butterfly wings that open when the fan is in use but close when the fan is switched off, preventing unwanted air leakage.

Q: How is a DraftStoppa installed?
A: The DraftStoppa comes with easy to follow instructions. Simply assemble the four components and drop it over the top of the exhaust fan. There is a notch for the fan electrical cable to pass through.

Q: Are there any things to watch out for?
A: Occasionally there are obstructions that cause fitting difficulty. The most common ones are:

        - The ceiling joists are too close together to accommodate the DraftStoppa as it is slightly wider than the exhaust fan.
        - There is a pipe above the exhaust fan.
        - The power outlet supplying the fan has been fitted too close to the fan.

Q: Can I fit the DraftStoppa on my 3-in-1 heat lamp unit?
A: Well yes and no. Technically it is possible with the use of a specific Adapter Plate AND rewire the electrical switch so that the fan is on any time the heat lamps are used. This is necessary to prevent melting the DraftStoppa. It is our view that a better approach is to replace the heat lamp unit with one that has a built-in back draught baffle.  However, we do offer the Adapter Plate if you wish to retain your existing fan.  [Learn more]

Q: What if my exhaust fan is on the ground floor of a two story home?
A: Usually the DraftStoppa can still be fitted, however the process is a little different. To fit the DraftStoppa into the inter-floor space (which is almost always a very draughty space) follow these steps:

        • Remove the fan grill as well as the fan from the ceiling. Let it hang by the electrical cord.
        • Take the DraftStoppa and fit the wings to each half of the round casing.
        • Put each half into the inter-floor space and then assemble the two halves within the inter-floor space.
        • Carefully replace the exhaust fan being careful to feed the electrical cable through the notch provided in the DraftStoppa.
        • Refix the fan into the ceiling and replace the grill.

Q: Will I still be able to use my fan?
A: This product should not prevent your fan from its natural function. If it does, then it may have inadvertently pushed into the side of the fan blades. Repositioning the DraftStoppa should clear the problem.

Q: How do I get a good seal around the base of the DraftStoppa with the power cord in the way?
A: There is a designated hole at the base of the fan that allows the power cord to fit.

Q: Are there any tips for fitting the DraftStoppa?
A: A couple of tips to help you successfully fit the DraftStoppa and achieve significant energy savings.

        • You need to be mindful that there is enough clearance AROUND the fan in the roof space.
        • You will need some clearance ABOVE the DraftStoppa for the flaps to open and close.
        • The joists in the ceiling need to be spaced wide enough for the Draft Stoppa to fit over the fan and still sit flat on your plasterboard.

Q: What types of fans will the DraftStoppa fit?
        A:
A DraftStoppa will fit any Tastic fan (which is an axial fan), 2, 3 or 4 lamp systems, round or square.  A Draftstoppa will NOT fit on any Heller fan.  Heller fans are centrigual fans and should have their own back draught baffle fitted.  If you aren't sure what type of fan you have, remove a heat lamp (when its cold!).  If you can see the roof, then you have an axial fan and a DraftStoppa can be fitted.

Q: Is there anything special I need to know about the Draft Stoppa before it is installed?
A: Yes - DO NOT leave it sitting in the sun (even for a short time) as UV rays will warp the butterfly wings on the DraftStoppa.  This will prevent the DraftStoppa from creating a seal between the flaps and the base.

A: Depending upon the size of your order, it will be shipped either by AusPost or a specialist courier (note this is NOT an express courier).

Q: Will my order be tracked?
A: Yes!  When your order is consigned, you will receive a tracking number that will show you where your order is and its expected delivery date.

AusPost - Track your order here
Specialist Courier - Track your order here

Q:  When will my order be delivered?
A: All AusPost orders are picked, packed and despatched within 2 business days.  Our experience with AusPost indicates that your order will be delivered within 2 - 5 business days.  Clearly this will fluctuate at peak shipping times such as Christmas and EOFY.

If your have selected the specialist courier, your order will be packed and despatched within 3 business days.  Please note, this is a specialist courier - NOT an express courier.  The courier will NOT get your order to your home faster, but it will deliver over-sized items that AusPost cannot deliver.

Q: What happens if my order gets lost during transit?
A: On rare occasions we have had orders go missing. ecoMaster has solid procedures in place and photograph every order that leaves our warehouse.  The delivery of our orders at our local post office are videoed and we track the progress of orders.  If a delivery date appears to be beyond expectation, we will raise a query with the freighter on your behalf.  If your order cannot be found during transit, we will send a replacement.

Q: What happens if my order is stolen after delivery?
A: We will check with the freighter to ensure that the order was delivered to the correct address.  If that is confirmed, and your order has been stolen from your home after delivery, please raise a Police Report.  In practice, we have had very little of this type of incident.

        Warranty

Q: What is the product warranty for DraftStoppa?
A: DraftStoppa carries a product warranty of 5 years, as long as the product has been installed according to instructions.

Q: What is the installation warranty for DraftStoppa?
A: As the DraftStoppa is a DIY product there is no warranty on installation.

We have known 'failures' of the DraftStoppa unit when:

        • It was left sitting in the sun prior to installation. Whilst the DraftStoppa is heat resistant, is does not like UV which will cause the butterfly wings to warp.
        • It was installed over a 3 in 1 heat / lamp / fan unit and the switch was not rewired according to the manufacturers instructions.
        • The lugs that the butterfly wings are attached to have been snapped off due to excess pressure / impatient installation.

To get the best value for your investment, please, PLEASE watch the installation videos before you proceed.

If you have any questions, contact the ecoMaster team.  We are all ex-installers and have done this work thousands of times before.  We are here to help you.

Q: What do I do if I have a problem with this product?
A: Refer to our Returns / Refunds page [Learn More].  Our Research and Development team will be keenly interested to learn of any product failure and will want images and samples of the product (if possible) so they can determine what the cause of failure was.

Q: What happens if my order is damaged in transit?
A: Our freighters have very strict policies on the ability to claim on insurance if your order arrives damaged.  There is a 48 hour window of receipt of goods for ecoMaster being able to advise the freighters of a damage claim.  PLEASE ensure you have advised us IMMEDIATELY if an order has been damaged on arrival.  Open your order immediately and check.  Outside of the 48 hour window, we are unable to make an insurance claim.

        DRAFTSTOPPA/EXHAUST FAN COVER

Very good cover. Easy to assemble and install. Made the house much warmer. Had to cut small notches on the sides, so that cover sits flush with the plaster on top of the 250mm HPM exhaust fan as fan's mounting tabs were in the way. Had no such problem with a 200mm toilet fan. So ordered 2 covers and very happy with them. Love the extra insulation included with fan covers

        Hi Alexandre,

Love hearing that the cover was easy to assemble and install, and that it has made your house warmer. We apologize for the inconvenience of having to cut notches to accommodate the mounting tabs, that's not feedback we have received before but we are happy that it was a simple fix. We appreciate your business, thank you for choosing ecoMaster.

Great way to reduce drafts from fans

These Draftstoppas are easy to assemble and simply sit over your bathroom exhaust fan. I have used them for many years and they noticeably reduce the cold air blowing into your bathroom, particularly on a cold Victorian day. I ordered mine on a Sunday and they arrived two days later. Fantastic service, highly recommended!

Thank you for your kind review Arthur!
