Description

Double doors look great—but they often leak air where they meet. 🚪↔️🚪💨

The RP16 Astragal Seal is designed specifically for double doors to seal the central gap where the two doors meet. This is one of the most common and overlooked sources of draughts, dust, noise, and even light infiltration—especially in older homes or French doors.

Made from durable aluminium with a flexible sealing strip, the RP16 neatly bridges the centre join without interfering with how the doors open or close. It helps maintain thermal comfort, block airflow, and reduce external contaminants entering through that slim but significant gap.

Pro Tips:

  • The difficulty in fitting the RP16 can be quite variable. In the easiest circumstance it is simply a matter of cutting to length and screw fitting to the edge of a door. We highly recommend using a pilot drill to prevent the screw fixings from splitting the edge of the door.
  • Things that make fitting an RP16 more difficult include:
    • Needing to check in hinges to ensure a minimum 4mm centre gap.
    • Needing to rebate the RP16 around a door latch.
    • Needing to rebate the RP16 round concealed edge bolts in the top and the bottom of the inactive door
  • Best installed on the outside but will need to be installed on the inside if your doors have mushroom stops
  • We recommend always drilling pilot holes to position the device and to prevent splitting along the door’s edge.
  • The seal should be cut slightly shorter than the full length of the door to prevent jamming at the top or base

There are a couple of limitations with installing RP16 that you need to watch out for:

    • You will need a minimum of 4mm centre gap. It’s OK if the gap opens up further but in order for the RP16 not to bind you will need a minimum of 4mm. Sometimes the best way of achieving this is to check in the hinges of one or both of the doors.
    • The RP16 can only make up a lateral gap of 7mm. If your active door is not plumb with the inactive door by more than this, then the silicone blade of the RP16 may not seal against part of the active door. It may be necessary to shift the hinges on the active door so that the face of the the two doors are in the same plane.
Delivery

Q: Can I collect my order?
A: Yes, you can. Once your order is ready, we will send you a Ready for Pickup email with full collection details.  Please note: pickup is from Preston, Victoria — not Prestons, NSW.

Q: Why is courier delivery so expensive?
A: Because this is a long product, freight costs are higher than for standard parcel items. We know that is not the most exciting news of the day, and we are always working to keep delivery costs as fair and reasonable as possible.

Q: Why can’t I choose Australia Post?
A: This product is too long for Australia Post, so it needs to travel with a specialist courier that handles oversized items safely.

Q: When will my order be despatched?
A: Most orders are despatched within 2–3 business days

Q: Will I get tracking?
A: Yes. Once your order has been booked with the courier, you will receive a tracking number so you can keep an eye on its journey.  Please note: if your order includes multiple items, they may arrive in separate parcels at no extra shipping cost.

Q: When will my order arrive?
A: Your order will be delivered by a specialist courier for oversized goods. This is not an express service, so delivery times can vary depending on your location and the time of year.  Delays are more likely during busy periods such as winter, Christmas and end of financial year.

Q: Will my order be left if no one is home?
A: Yes. Standard courier deliveries are sent as Authority to Leave. That means if no one is home when the courier arrives, your parcel may be left at your address.  If that is not suitable, please contact us when placing your order so we can discuss other options.

Q: What if my order arrives damaged?
A:
Please open and inspect your order as soon as it arrives. If anything has been damaged in transit, let ecoMaster know immediately.  Damage claims must be lodged within 48 hours of delivery. After that window, we may not be able to submit a claim with the carrier.

Q: What if my order goes missing in transit?
A: If your order seems overdue, we will follow it up with the courier on your behalf. If it cannot be located, we will arrange a replacement.

Q: What if my order is stolen after delivery?
A: If your parcel is stolen after it has been delivered, please report the theft to the police.

Q: How can I reduce freight costs?
A: Oversized freight can be expensive, especially for items over 1.5 metres long. To help keep costs down, you may wish to:

  • Combine all long items into one order
  • Share freight costs with a neighbour
  • Collect your order from Preston, Victoria
  • Use a more central delivery address if you live in a regional or rural area

We know freight costs can be frustrating, especially outside metro areas, and we will always do our best to help you find the most practical option.

FAQ

Frequenty asked questions

Q: What is it?
A: The RP16 is an architectural quality seal that seals the gap between double doors.

Q: How does it work?
A: The RP16 is specially designed for stopping air transfer between double doors. The aluminum carrier is fixed to the edge of one door and its silicon blade seals against the other door. This mechanism provides an excellent seal between your doors.

Q: How hard is the RP16 to install
A: The RP16 is more advanced than a standard DIY product.  There are detailed instructions and pro tips to walk you through the installation process.
If you are not confident to undertake this level of work then EMV as a centre seal is potentially a better way for you to go.

Q: How do I know it has been installed properly?
A: When the active door is closed the blade of the RP16 should be sealed against the entire length of the opposite door.

Q: Will my door still function as a door?
A: This product should not prevent your door from its natural function, if you can no longer open or close your door or it’s difficult to operate after installation, then it may have been installed incorrectly.

What is a draught excluder?

A draught excluder is a device that seals the gap at the bottom of your door to stop unwanted air, dust, noise, and even pests from sneaking in or out. It’s one of the simplest and most effective ways to improve your home’s comfort and energy efficiency—especially in older homes with gaps you can feel (or even see!).

Why do you recommend Raven draught excluders over other brands?

We’ve tested them all—and Raven comes out on top for performance, durability, and long-term reliability. While they might cost a little more upfront, Raven products last for years, not months. That means less replacing, less frustration, and more value over time.  Raven is the draught excluder we installed on our own home, 20+ years ago.  Its still there - working - effectively.

Why is Raven more expensive than what I can buy at a hardware store?

Because it’s built to last. Raven products are made with superior materials and are engineered to perform in real Aussie conditions—heat, cold, wind, and rain. Some carry a BAL (bushfire) rating and some carry acoustic ratings, so you’re not just buying a seal—you’re investing in comfort, safety, and peace of mind.

Are cheaper draught stoppers just as good?

Not really. Cheaper options might seem like a bargain, but they often fall off, lose shape, or stop sealing within months, or never work at all. You end up replacing them again and again. With Raven, you buy it once—and it just works, year after year.

Which Raven product is right for my door?

That depends on the size of the gap and the type of door. We’ve done the hard work for you with clear guides and curated product options. Or try Find and Fix My Draughts—it’s our easy tool to help you choose the perfect product for your home.

Can I install Raven products myself?

Yes! Most are DIY-friendly, and we provide installation tips and videos to walk you through it. If you’re comfortable using a drill or screwdriver, you’ll get a clean, professional result—and a draught-free door in no time.  If you are not comfortable with DIY, contact us for a referral to a trusted draught proofing technician in your area.
