Thee Velcro tabs keep melting off the glass on hot days when you need renshade the most. Very frustrating.
Hi Stephanie,
The adhesive on the Velcro dots is made to cope with high temperatures, but it does work best when the surface is carefully prepared and the dots are applied to the right area. Even when frames look clean, they can still carry a very light, invisible residue from cleaning products, polish, silicone, dust, or skin oils, which can affect how well the adhesive bonds.
That’s why we mention this on our website — it really does make a difference. For the most reliable, long-lasting hold, we recommend giving the surface a quick wipe with isopropyl alcohol and then pressing the dots firmly into place. If those steps are missed, the adhesive may not fully bond and the dots can sometimes come away over time.
This product was referred to me by a neighbour and so I gave it a try. It does work in reflecting heat and it does let some light through. It was reasonably easy to install. I honestly think it is overpriced for basically 5 metres of perforated aluminium foil. I will look for a more permanent alternative.
Hi Iain,
Thanks for the feedback — we’re glad to hear it does what it’s meant to do by reflecting heat while still letting light through, and that you found it fairly easy to install.
We get that at first glance it can look like “just perforated foil”, but Renshade is actually purpose-designed and engineered for performance. When used correctly, it can reduce solar heat gain by up to 71%, cut glare and light by up to 89%, and may help reduce cooling load by up to 31%, depending on how and where it’s installed.
On pricing, we understand the comparison. Renshade is a simple, removable solution that reflects heat and lets light through, and it’s priced at $144.
By comparison, true external shading options like awnings, pergola blinds, shutters, or custom shade systems often cost thousands. For many homes they’re also not practical due to body corporate rules, heritage restrictions, rentals, access issues, or the need for custom-made solutions.

I am not impressed with the quality of the Velcro Tabs. They lasted all of about 2 weeks before they peeled off the window frames. The frames were cleaned before putting up and we tried removing and refitting the Renshade during installation and they worked fine. Two weeks later they are all peeling off.
Hi Iain,
Thanks so much for taking the time to let us know — we’re genuinely sorry this has been your experience. If the Velcro tabs are peeling off after only two weeks, we understand how frustrating that would be, and it’s certainly not the result we want for you.
In most cases, this comes down to surface preparation rather than heat tolerance. While the adhesive on the Velcro tabs is designed to handle high temperatures, it is very sensitive to the condition of the surface it’s applied to. Even when glass appears clean, it can still have an invisible residue from cleaners, polish, silicone, or dust, which can prevent the adhesive from bonding properly.
This is why we note on our website that proper preparation makes a big difference. For best results, the surface should be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol before firmly pressing the tabs into place. If this step is missed, the adhesive can unfortunately fail and the tabs may come away.
To help us recommend the best solution straight away, could you please let us know:
Whether the tabs were installed on glass or on the window frame (painted timber, aluminium, or uPVC), and
Whether isopropyl alcohol was used for the final clean before installation.
In the meantime, we’re more than happy to help you get back to a secure setup — whether that’s sending replacement tabs or suggesting an alternative mounting option better suited to your window type and conditions.
