The next step is choosing the right solution.
Let’s fix your draughty door properly
Most homes have small gaps around doors.
Sometimes they’re uneven. Sometimes they change from top to bottom.
That’s where the cold air gets in.
To stop draughts properly, you need to seal all four sides
A door has four sides — top, bottom and both edges.
If any part is left open, air will continue to move through.
That’s why many solutions only partially fix the problem.

If both your front and back doors are letting air through
This is also very common. Fixing one door helps, but sealing both transforms your home.
It’s more efficient to do them together, rather than coming back to the second one later.

If you have one external door that feels draughty
You’ll get the best result by sealing the entire door - top, sides and bottom.
This is the most common situation, and once it’s done properly, the difference is noticeable straight away.

Already using a door snake?
Keep it… if you insist... (we’ve got plenty of reasons why you shouldn’t…).
But it’s only solving part of the problem, and it solves NO problems if it is not put back into place every time the door is used.
If you want to stop the draughts properly, you’ll still need to seal the sides and top of the door.

If you have French doors...
French doors tend to have multiple gaps - around the edges, between the two doors, and underneath the doors and a lot more complexity.
They need a slightly different approach to get a proper seal across all those areas.

If you have a cavity sliding door
These doors don’t suit standard seals, because parts of the door are hidden inside the wall.
You need a system designed specifically for that type of opening.

In a bushfire-prone area? Don’t use the wrong door seals
Not all draught-proofing products are suitable for BAL-rated homes.
BAL-rated seals are designed to meet strict requirements - helping reduce ember entry while still sealing gaps around your door.
If you need to meet bushfire requirements, it’s important to choose seals designed for compliance — not just comfort.

Sick of outside noise getting in? Your door could be the weak point
Traffic, planes, ‘those’ neighbours, budding musical virtuosos - when it’s constant, even small gaps make a big difference.
Seal the gaps, and you take control of what gets in.
If you are dealing with extreme outside noise? Start with your door
If you’re under a flight path, near a busy road, or dealing with constant external noise, even small gaps around your door can let a surprising amount of sound in.
Sound travels through air - and gaps around your door act like open channels.
Seal the gaps, and you reduce the pathways that noise uses to enter your home. Be aware: this won’t completely soundproof your home. But it can noticeably reduce sharp, intrusive noise - especially when combined with other upgrades like window protection and acoustic insulation.

If you’re replacing or adding to an existing setup
Sometimes you don’t need a full kit — just a specific component to complete or improve what you already have.

Just need to seal the gap underneath your door?
That’s a slightly different situation.
There are quite a few ways to deal with gaps under doors - depending on the size of the gap, the floor surface, and how your door is used.
Rather than oversimplify it here, we’ve put together a range of proven options you can explore.
Not sure which one applies to your home?
That’s completely normal. Every house is a bit different.
